Our Lord spent part of his ministry healing the sick and suffering. In Mark 6:13 we read how the Apostles administered this sacrament on people. Also in the letter of St. James 5:14 we read "if any one is sick, let him[her] call for a priest. Our Mother Church states that this sacrament gives strength to the dying and to "anyone of the faithful [who] begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age" (Catechism of the Cat. Church n. 1514). Also this sacrament may be given to those about to undergo serious surgery and may be repeated if the sick person recovers and then relapses.
